This comprehensive, in-person continuing education course examines the latest scientific evidence on the prevention, evaluation, and rehabilitation of knee arthrofibrosis. Designed for rehabilitation professionals across the entire continuum of care, you'll learn practical, evidence-informed assessment strategies, manual therapy techniques, exercise progressions, and clinical decision-making principles that can be implemented immediately in practice.
Whether you're treating patients following total knee arthroplasty, guiding athletes after ACL reconstruction, or managing complex postoperative knee conditions, you'll leave with a proven framework for restoring motion, minimizing excessive scar tissue formation, and optimizing long-term function. 8:30 - 10:00 AM - Knee Arthrofibrosis: etiology, risk factors, primary and secondary arthrofibrosis, classifications, and scientific background of the disease
10:00 - 10:45 AM - Differential Diagnosis & What Really Happens in the Knee: confounding pathologies, active causes feeding the arthrofibrotic process, anatomical changes in and out of the knee with KAF, patient evaluation, clinical history, and diagnostic imaging

11:00 AM - 12:30 PM - The First (Immediate) Reaction Is Crucial: what to do and what not to do, first-level rehabilitation strategies, monitoring, progression, and when pharmacological and/or specialized orthopedic surgeon intervention is needed (practical session)

1:30 - 2:45 PM - Rehabilitation Techniques and Devices to Support Specialized Rehabilitation for KAF LLPS: over-pressure program, dedicated HEP, devices, and how to best replace them when you do not have them (practical session)
2:45 - 3:30 PM - Surgical Techniques for KAF: when specialist rehabilitation is not enough, arthroscopic surgery vs open, salvage procedures, risks and benefits, and implications for rehabilitation (video and image-based session)

3:45 - 4:30 PM - Complications: infections, CRPS, deep venous thrombosis, the typical U-turn after surgery and what to do immediately in rehabilitation, the burden of the specialist team, management in rehabilitation (theory and practical session)
4:30 - 5:00 PM - The Psychological Aspect of the KAF Patient: the clinician's management of patients and families with a potentially devastating condition
5:00 - 5:15 PM - The Clinician Deal: accepting that this is an extremely complex disease and recovery will rarely be complete, while understanding the impactful role a specialist team plays in returning the patient to a functional, quality life

About the Instructor
Sebastiano Nutarelli, PhD Candidate, MS Biomechanics, Sports PT, EOC Clinical Researcher, Sports Rehab co-founder, and EUKAF Coordinator, has dedicated more than 15 years to knee arthrofibrosis (KAF). He serves on the Committee of the International Arthrofibrosis Association, contributes to KNEEguru.co.uk, co-founded Sports Rehab PT clinics in Switzerland, and established the European Knee Arthrofibrosis Center. He is also a Clinical Researcher with the Service of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, Department of Surgery, at EOC in Lugano, Switzerland.
